Menendez Widens Lead

The Senate race has barely started, but Robert Menendez has begun with a five point lead over State Senator Tom Kean Jr.

Menendez leads overwhelmingly among Democrats, 68% to 18%, and Kean leads among Republicans with a similar margin.

What Republicans are voting for Menendez against Kean? Bush must be messing up pretty bad.

Term Limits

According to CQ Politics, eight Republican members of congress had previously pledged to retire at the conclusion of the 109th congress. Nevertheless, every single one of them seems to have had a change of heart, as they are all seeking reelection this November. According to Congresssional Quarterly, not too many people in their districts seem to remember or care, as all the districts are listed as "Safe Republican."

  • Zach Wamp (R-TN)
  • Jeff Flake (R-AZ)
  • Frank LoBiondo(R-NJ)
  • Barbara Cubin (R-WV)
  • Phil English (R-PA)
  • Timothy Johnson (R-IL)
  • Mark Souder (R-IN)
The most interesting one on the list is Jeff Flake, a reform member of the GOP, often listed as a maverick on a range of issues. CQ Politics has listed him as one of the most liberal members of the Republican house caucus.

Cory Booker Holds Lead

Cory Booker looks more than likely to be Newark's next mayor, according to recent polls that show him crushing his most likely opponent, State Senator Ronald Rice.

Rice is a member of Sharpe James' establishment. Ironically, however, his son is apparently a fervent opponent of James.
