Bets on Lincoln Chaffee
If Lincoln Chaffee switched parties, would the Democrats continue to characterize him as a flip-flopping, power abusing, Bush lackey?
I put this post up not out of disgust but out of appreciation for the contradictions that make politics beautiful.

Sam thanks for stopping by my site; to answer your question; I've been a Democrat my whole life and I live in a sea of Democrats. The Republican presence is tiny and near non- existent. Maybe someday I'll rustle myself up and go find out what they're about. cheers -
To answer your question, the answer is almost absolutely yes. Chafee is barely a Republican when it comes to his views, and has tended to vote more Democratic in his career. However, the last few years have seen him become essentially the whipping boy of the GOP and he basically does what they tell him to do. He's one of those guys who'd make me believe in moderate Republicans if he actually didn't only toe the party line, but crossed it sometimes too.
Hey Chris,
Your comments are always insightful. Chaffee has the misfortune of being a senator in a state that is so liberal, especially during such partisan times, that despite being possibly the most liberal Republican in Congress, he is in danger of defeat. Because of this, he has hired former Bush political consultants, and therefore will owe more to the administration in the future. This is similar to the situation that Arlen Specter, who was formerly pretty liberal, put himself in when he hired Bush campaigners to help him win in the primaries.
Nice to see the political forecast up and running. Think you could spot us a link on the blogroll?
